Art for Art’s Sake

Art for Art’s Sake

A unique co-operation between an art collector and The Peninsula New York has resulted in a fabulous treat for guests and the public – ‘The Art Exhibition’. It is not every day that one is offered the use of a stunning million dollar collection of photography, art and sculpture, and so when the opportunity presented itself to The Peninsula New York, it was too good to pass up. This offer from a collector (who wishes to remain anonymous) was accepted and it was agreed to feature selected works from the collection in public areas of the hotel where they would be exposed to and appreciated by the greatest number of people. The results of this collaboration are on offer for viewing on the public lower levels of the hotel and with various artworks on rotation throughout the year, guests and New Yorkers alike can enjoy fine art without the crowds and entrance fees of museums.

Renowned artists and photographers’ work that has been displayed to date include Chuck Close, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Cindy Sherman, Richard Avedon, Bill Brandt, Arturo Herrera, Nabil Youssef, Erwin Olaf, Vik Muniz, Zhang Huan and Takashi Murakami, providing a veritable treasure trove for art lovers.
