Celebrating 25 Glorious Years
The Peninsula New York comemorou seu 25.º aniversário em grande estilo no dia 30 de setembro de 2013. A comemoração aconteceu por todo o hotel, do lobby ao terraço, contando com a participação de mais de 600 convidados.
The Honourable Sir Michael Kadoorie, Chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, the parent company of The Peninsula Hotels, hosted the grand affair and was presented with an official Proclamation from the Office of Mayor Bloomberg, pronouncing 30th September, 2013 ‘The Peninsula New York Day’.
During his welcome remarks, Sir Michael announced that The Peninsula Hotels has partnered with the internationally renowned fashion designer Oscar de la Renta to introduce a collection of new bathroom amenities for The Peninsula Hotels around the world. Mr. de la Renta was present at the party to show his support for the partnership. Sir Michael also announced the official opening of The Peninsula New York's new restaurant, Clement, which was named after the company's CEO, Clement King Man Kwok.
Produced by David Beahm Design, the festivities began at the hotel's front entrance, where 55th Street was swathed in red carpet and featured a traditional Chinese lion dance and a resounding drum accompaniment in honour of the hotel's Asian heritage. Upon entering the hotel, guests were welcomed with an inspiring two-storey ‘ribbon of flowers’ that towered from the ground 18 feet upwards comprising 25,000 stems of roses, hydrangea, alstroemeria and other brightly coloured flowers with hand-painted butterflies made from bird feathers. 75 florists worked around the clock over three days to construct the flower ribbons which were custom designed especially for the event.
A five-tiered cake by renowned cake creator extraordinaire Sylvia Weinstock was the centrepiece of the dessert buffet, with a large silver apple perched on top of the cake.
Live entertainment was featured in six different venues throughout the hotel, including duo Jul & Co, who were flown in from France to perform their signature mix of multi-instrumental and DJ skills, which created an eclectic vibe on Salon de Ning's East Terrace. Meanwhile, the West Terrace was transformed into a Moroccan-themed tent, colored in deep, plush, red drapery with low lying seating for lounging and enjoying the performances of Carte Blanche and Elan Cabaret who dazzled with Prohibition-era sounds and dance performances.
The hotel's glass-enclosed pool was transformed into ‘Studio 55’ with a dance floor completely covering the pool so that guests could dance the night away to the tunes of DJ Ray Jarell as well as watch various musical performers ignite the dance floor with hits from the 70s to the present. On the lobby level, Honey & Vinyl sang vintage classics from the jazz days of old New York in the Gotham Lounge, while Alexis Foxe & Lounge Noir performed sultry Euro-style remixes of lounge favourites amidst a stunning oyster and caviar bar in the newly-opened Clement restaurant.
