A Vintage Visit

September 08, 2016
1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
2016 marks the 150-year anniversary of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Ltd., the parent company of The Peninsula Hotels. To commemorate this milestone, The Peninsula New York proudly showcased the company's crown jewel, a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II in honour of our heritage and passion for luxury transportation.
The Peninsula and Rolls-Royce have been partners in excellence for nearly 40 years, beginning with the first fleet order in Hong Kong in 1970. The Rolls-Royce Phantom II was a limited production model, with only 1,680 produced from 1929 - 1936. This immaculately restored Rolls-Royce was originally built between the two World Wars by Park Ward, British coachbuilder. Today, several of The Peninsula properties own these bespoke vehicles.

Hailing from The Peninsula Paris, the 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II was on display outside of the hotel from 8-12 September 2016. The vehicle was also available for VIP rides around Midtown.
To celebrate this vintage visit, a "Rolls on the Rocks" whiskey tasting event took place in Gotham Lounge on 8 September 2016, hosted by David McKirdy, Classic and Vintage Automobile Consultant for HSH, who flew in from Hong Kong for the occasion, and Gerry Spahn, Head of Communications, North America for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars America. Guests enjoyed a tasting of three of Macallan’s most celebrated marks of whiskey paired with 1930’s-inspired canapes while learning about the history of the classic vehicle from David and Gerry. One lucky guest even enjoyed a ride home in the vehicle after the event.
